Microneedling

Patients who are interested in a non-laser way of resurfacing the skin are welcome to contact the team of Dr. W Dermatology to learn about a procedure known as microneedling.

Microneedling is a method of repairing the skin and improving texture and tone. It can be used in a variety of ways, and is best for addressing:
  • Acne scars
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Poor texture
  • Poor tone
Microneedling is done by puncturing the skin with extremely small needles from a special handheld device. While this may seem as though it would do more harm than good, it actually helps in stimulating the body's natural repair methods. This forces the skin to produce collagen, a natural way of improving youthfulness and firmness.

This particular treatment does not require any heat and is completely safe. It can be used on all skin types, including darker ethnic skin.

Many patients are interested in comparing microneedling with procedures such as non-ablative lasers. This method of treatment does not involve light or heat, but does penetrate as deep as a typical laser treatment can. However, the results are often less dramatic, but more affordable in comparison.

Treatments can be done in our office in a series of at least three sessions. We recommend spacing these sessions approximately one month apart. Treatment includes the application of topical anesthetics to numb the skin before microneedling is performed to ensure patient comfort. Most treatments take approximately thirty minutes depending on the size of the treatment area.

After the procedure, patients may experience some redness for the next few days, which may be accompanied with dry skin and peeling. However, the skin will heal and improve gradually over the course of time as the body produces collagen, which helps in improving the texture and tone of the skin.

Dr. W Dermatology is here for patients who are interested in a variety of methods used to achieve a more beautiful appearance.
