What is Latisse?
Latisse is a topical medication used to make your eyelashes grow longer and fuller. It contains bimatoprost, which is the same active ingredient as Lumigan, a glaucoma medication. When physicians began noticing their Lumigan patients developing beautiful, luscious lashes, it was discovered that bimatoprost stimulates the active growth phase of eyelashes.
Latisse treatment from Dr. W Dermatology
Latisse has been approved by the FDA for eyelash treatment, and it is available by prescription only. We will begin with an examination to ensure that you are a good candidate. You will be provided with the prescription for the medication, disposable sterile applicators, and complete instructions. Latisse is applied at home, each night.
It is important to use the supplied applicators, as they are designed to deliver the correct dosage. Latisse should be used after contact lenses and all cosmetic products have been removed, just before you go to bed. Use a single drop, placed on the applicator, to spread the formula along the upper lash line, and then wipe away the excess. The process is then repeated for the other eye. It is advisable to use a clear mirror with adequate lighting to ensure proper application. Latisse should not be placed on the lower lid; it is intended to transfer naturally when you close your eyes. Using more than the recommended amount, or using more frequently, will not improve the results, and it may increase the risk of side effects.
Latisse rarely has side effects, and they are typically mild if they do occur. Potential reactions may include itching and redness of the eye area. In extremely rare cases, dry eyes and irritation of the eyelid skin have been reported. Be sure to contact us right away if you experience any adverse effects.
Optimize your results
It is important to remember that results are not instant; eyelashes don’t grow overnight. Your Lashes may be noticeably fuller and longer as early as four weeks, but it will take about sixteen weeks for full results to develop. About four out of five patients report darker, fuller, thicker lashes after this length of time. Once treatment has begun, it is important to use Latisse every night, according to directions. If you discontinue use of the product, your eyelashes will return to their previous state.
