Winter itch: What causes it, and what you can do
For many people, the onset of cold weather means the beginning of an especially bothersome seasonal misery: itching skin. There are many possible causes, with the most common being dryness. Be sure to use moisturizer frequently, even when you aren’t itching. The best defense is avoiding problems by keeping skin hydrated. If your current moisturizer doesn’t seem to be working, ask us for recommendations.

Other possible causes include allergies or contact irritants. Due to temperatures, and the holiday season, we are often exposed to different fabrics, foods, fragrances, cosmetics, and more. For example, your wool coat may be irritating your skin, you might be allergic to that holiday air freshener, or that sparkling eye shadow could be leaving glitter particles in your eyes. If itching skin persists, visit us for a consultation.
3 tips to help your skin survive the holidays
Seasonal celebrations can be the highlight of your year, but they can also take a toll on your skin. Here are the ways to look great through the season:
  1. Get enough sleep – Busy days, and late night celebrations can leave you looking (and feeling) tired. If you can’t take a nap, a cool compress can help reduce eye puffiness.
  2. Limit salt intake – Party hors d'oeuvres and special holiday meals are often laden with salt, which can lead to overall puffiness of your face. If you’ve consumed a lot of salt, sleep with your head elevated to prevent liquid from pooling.
  3. Don’t neglect your skin – Holidays may be fun-filled, but they are also stressful, which can trigger certain conditions such as acne. Although it may be tempting to save time by shortening your routine, this is no time neglect your skin. Be sure to use any topical your dermatologist has recommended, and cleanse and exfoliate regularly.
