How an Old Computer Monitor Can Age Your Face
According to a 2014 survey by Consumer Electronics Association, nearly half of all American households still have at least one CRT computer monitor. The devices are extremely inexpensive and, despite being outdated, they are compatible with many popular systems. They are also bulky and have poor picture quality compared to newer models, but there are even more important reasons to upgrade.

The new standard in computer monitors is LCD or LED; neither one of these systems produces UV rays. However, older CRT monitors do emit low levels of UV radiation. Although the amount is small, the cumulative exposure from daily or frequent computer use can take a toll on your skin, very similar the long-term damage of sun exposure. If you use an old-school monitor, do your skin a favor and upgrade. You’ll have more room on your desk, too!
Study Offers New Hope for Eczema Patients
Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition affecting about three percent of adults and over ten percent of infants. It is typically managed with a combination of medication and preventive measures. The more we understand about the condition, the more effectively it can be treated. Heredity, weather conditions, allergens, and inadequate moisturizing are known to trigger or aggravate eczema. A new study may have identified another important aspect of eczema, which could open up new treatment options.

The study, recently published in Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, indicates that eczema is an autoimmune disease. It also showed promising results for treating eczema with biologics, such as those used for psoriasis, which is also an autoimmune disease. Researchers expect new eczema medications to be approved by the FDA within the next few years.
