Microdermabrasion: Not what you think
You’ve probably heard of microdermabrasion, but unless you’ve experienced it, you may have a few misconceptions about it. Many people associate it with dermabrasion, which is actually a very different procedure. Dermabrasion is a resurfacing procedure that involves downtime and healing. Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is a gentle and refreshing technique used to polish and buff skin. It is comfortable and typically has no downtime, leaving skin with a soft feel and healthy glow.

Microdermabrasion is often used for treating rough, dry skin, facilitating a more even skin tone, clearing whiteheads and similar concerns. If your skin is feeling the effects of summer weather, microdermabrasion may be a great solution, either used alone or in conjunction with other treatments. The beauty of chemical peels
Are you intimidated by the idea of chemical peels? If so, you aren’t alone. The name of the procedure may sound a bit harsh, and many people automatically think of a deep peel. However, deep peels are rarely used today, as there are better options for major resurfacing. Most peels are light to medium depth, often with no downtime.

Chemical peels are actually highly customizable. Many different formulas are available, and specialized ingredients can address specific concerns such as dark spots or acne. Additionally, the strength of the peel and the length of time that it remains in contact with the skin will determine the depth. The process stimulates the skin to naturally shed damaged surface layers of skin, and hasten the development of healthy, youthful new cells.

The most common peels are superficial, and have little to no downtime. Depending on the specific peel, there may be redness or flaking for a few days. However, patients are warned to be extra careful with sun exposure, because the fresh new skin is more vulnerable to UV rays. If you have been considering a chemical peel, the cooler months are an excellent time to give it a try, when the sun is less intense and we naturally spend more time indoors. Feel free to call our office with any questions.
