Tech neck: What it is and what you can do about it
The term “tech neck” was originally used to describe muscle pain and stiffness caused by looking down at a smartphone or other device for an extended period. Recently, the term is also being applied to neck wrinkles of the same cause. Just as repetitive frowning, squinting, or laughing can result in facial lines, repetitive neck movement can leave a mark. What can you do?
  • Improve posture – The best cure is prevention, by keeping devices at eye level and keeping your neck and spine straight.
  • Fat reduction – If you have excess fat in the neck or chin area, it can exacerbate wrinkles. There are several minimally invasive treatments to melt or dissolve pockets of fat.
  • Fillers – Skin laxity can add to the problem. A few simple injections can replace lost volume.
  • Botox – This popular anti-aging product is not just used around the eyes. It may be used “off label” in other areas if muscle rigidity is causing wrinkles.
  • Skin rejuvenation – From chemical peels to laser therapy, rejuvenation or resurfacing treatments can improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines.
