You guys make me feel comfortable and give me hope that my problem will be cured. Most of all, the staff relaxes me with their sweet smile, great sense of humor, and soothing conversation. If I have to complain about anything, it would be that I didn't discover you, your staff, and my treatments any sooner. Keep up the good work!!!!"

Dr. W Dermatology offers a low-risk way to treat patients with excessive or abnormal hair loss – platelet rich plasma.

Introducing PRP

Platelet rich plasma therapy has been used for decades to promote healing. Dermatologists safely use PRP to improve the appearance of scars, facial lines and wrinkles, and loose skin. The team can also use PRP to treat patients with hormonal alopecia.

How It Works

Platelets are a cell in the blood essential to clotting. Combined with liquid plasma, they contain factors that promote cell multiplication and healing.

A small amount of the patient’s own blood is placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood into components, resulting in enriched cells heavily concentrated with beneficial platelets.

When injected into your scalp, PRP activates hair growth. The platelets release growth factors or substances necessary to increase the cells needed to repair and heal tissues, and restore hair volume.

PRP is a safe treatment. Since it is derived from the patient’s own blood, adverse reactions are not a concern. Proven to improve or speed healing, PRP is associated with minimal downtime and side effects.

Like any procedure, PRP may not be suitable for every patient. The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories should be discontinued for around a week and a half before treatment. These medications inhibit the clotting process necessary for platelets to activate healing. You should abstain from strenuous activities in the day following treatment, and from sun exposure and dramatic temperature changes for two to three days post-treatment.

PRP may be used with other restorative techniques such as hair transplants and microneedling; however, any skin service (i.e. lasers and peels) must be scheduled at least two weeks before or after the procedure.
